COURSE DESCRIPTION
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is conventionally considered as a challenging and multifaceted syndrome in which obsessive-compulsive processes (OCD) are driven by the need to avoid negative feelings such as contamination, fear, and shame.
This conceptualization is valuable as far as it goes, but from the IFS perspective we could also ask about the mechanisms of this avoidance and how to heal this cycle at its core, that is, the protectors and exiles involved.
In the first part of this workshop, we will present an IFS definition of OCD, examine the many manifestations of OCD, and offer a solid approach to IFS assessment of obsessive and compulsive systems.
In the second part we will explore OC processes such as the behaviors of protective parts that are motivated not only to avoid, but to exile negative feelings in predictable ways and how to free protectors from their extreme states by adding the precious ingredients of Self-Leadership and compassion and healing the exiles that drive the process.
